OUR SMELL PROOF TECH
We use our advanced Discreet-O-Matic activated carbon fiber fabric in all of our cases and bags.
In our Silverton hard shell cases, it is built into the dividers.
In our other bags, it is used in the bag liner, often covered with a perforated rip-stop fabric.
Our Discreet-O-Matic fabric is formed by converting a carbon-rich organic material (like wood, coconut shells, bamboo, etc.) into charcoal by heating it to a very high temperature (about 1200 deg. C) with an oxidizing agent. When this activation process is conducted on carbon-fibers it creates a highly exposed surface area due to the extremely small pore sizes that are formed in the carbon.
The process creates countless microscopic tunnels in the fiber that allows particles (often impurities like odor-producing compounds) to bind to the carbon through the function called van der Waals Force. Once bound, the odor compounds are trapped, thereby removing any odors. Eventually all of the pore spaces in the carbon will be filled with odor compounds so the fabric will no longer absorb the odors. Thankfully, activated carbon can be regenerated by heat, which will release the bound odor compounds and free up the pore spaces so they can continue to bind more odor compounds. Our Discreet-O-Matic fabric can be heated with a hair dryer for roughly 5 minutes to restore the fabric's odor absorption ability again.
Eventually, after regenerating the fabric many times, the bound odor compounds won't off gas as easily and the pore spaces will be remain clogged, thus reducing the fabric's ability to absorb odors. Fortunately, STASHLOGIX sells replaceable mini-dividers that are wrapped in our Discreet-O-Matic activated carbon fabric so you don't have to buy a new bag, just the inexpensive dividers. Typically, this will not be necessary for many years to come but your nose will let you know.
